    2006 883 MODIFICATIONS

    Hello, I purchased an 883 Sportster recently, a new 0 miles 2006, the last Sportster I owned was a 2000. I need some help on the differences from the 2003 to the 2004, differences other than the obvious. I will be doing minor performance (the tax) What is the stock jetting and what is the recommended jetting on the newer bikes? (after mufflers, air cleaner) Will exhausts from 2003 fit a 2006? by fit, do they clear forward controls with custom made mounting brackets? And finally for future mods. Will 1200, 2003 heads fit the 2004 models? Will any of the Buell parts, past or present fit the newer models? Last but not least what changes if any have been done since 2006 to the newer bikes?     In 2004 HD rubber mounted the XL engines. 2003 and earlier exhaust will not work. You have to look specificly for parts for 04-08 XL to expect them to fit. Jet sizes didn't change from earlier years so jetting guidlines remain the same. 06 was the last year for carbs, by the way. Edited by Xea on 12/26/2007 12:20:55 PM

    trying to figure out why my 06 883 is over revving while accelerating would the pipes being painted be the problem

    CM, no, not the pipes. Most likely the clutch is slipping. Try adjusting it first. If that doesn't solve the problem, then a new set of clutches would be needed, they have them here at J&P...

    CM - first, welcome to the forums - what part of the country are you from?

    Just want to clarify the "over reeving while accelerating" part - is it that the bike reeves quickly without gaining much speed or that the bike goes into the "red" zone on the tack (while still gaining speed) before it hits the rev limiter?

    The first is most often as FX suggests, a clutch in need of adjustment or a clutch pack in need of replacement - your shop manual will tell you how to do both of these yourself (J&P should have one for your bike)

    If it is the second, you would need to determine what ignition module you have (HD or aftermarket) to determine what is required to change the settings in the module - or just react with your right hand and as you approach the red line, back off and change gears.
