    Refinishing engine exterior...

Just picked up an 87 Honda Rebel CMX 450 with 5K miles on it. It was stored in a barn and has some unsighlyness on the cooling fins as well as the tranny case. any tricks to bringing it back to better lookingness? Thanks for your time and expertise folks!

    Re: Refinishing engine exterior...

SW, I have used mutiatic acid on engine fins. Get it at a swimming pool supply store, it's used to clean filters. Home supply stores may have it too. wear gloves. Don't get any on smooth metal. the smooth metal will have to be polished by hand, any good aluminum polish. If the aluminum parts have the plastic coating you can wet sand that off with like 400 grit, then 600 to finnish, then polish...First gunk the engine down a couple times, it might come clean by just doing that...

Don't force it, get a bigger hammer.
