Bear - first, welcome to the forums - what part of the country are you from?

I take it youir '96 is an evo clone?  On the top of the heads in the rocker cavity they have a little "hats" that permit venting to the carb.  Ocasionally these become stuck open so they dump noticable amounts of oil to the card - not a really big job to fix.

    hope this helps

i assume you mean 96 inch, not 1996? the S&S evo motors usually have two venting options, the old vent by the oil pump, and the newer style in the side of the head, introduced in 92 or 93 if i remember correctly. the newer style has umbrella valve in the rocker cover, as iron head mentions, this is an easy fix. the older style hads no such valve, so it is not unusual for the older style to puke some oil into the air filter. this can usually be soolved by usung a hayden krank vent in the vent line, 740-589. so you need t0o determine which vent option is being used on the engine and go from there
