    madmick

Hey mick, I'm curious about the roads where you live. Are most of them on the coasts or do you have any riding into the interior? I had some friends who, years ago, spent 6 months traveling around the coast in a leased camper. He loved your country so much he was tempted to disapear there, but figured he'd have trouble leaving if he had to. He told me about drinking in a bar in the middle of nowhere that had a pile of cans and bottles behind it that was bigger than the building. My kind of place.

Aussie land is a great place for a bike tour or even in a camper as we do not have that cold white stuff here. We have some unbelievable pubs and bars here in the 'outback' as you mentioned. The coast roads are complete but many roads into the interior are dirt then dust, some dust can be 2 - 3 feet deep!. Then when it rains well you can imagine!!!. You blokes do not need visa's here any more the same as we don't need them in your country. ( no green cards either). I have been to the USA many times and you have some wonderful sights as well. I was lucky to meet up with quite a few 'Yanks" here for the H/ D Open road tour in march this year and they all loved the place, did not want to go home. We gave them some trips to do into the outback of New South Wales and they had a ball. I live in Victoria which has moderate weather and great riding. No one here puts the scooter away for winter either!. You can email me at mick.newman@tpg.com.au and we can correspond if you wish. Or crate your scoot and come over ( err Down!) and vistit. No problems. Can you imagine drinking in a bar the is 30 foot below the ground as is 120- 140 deg. outside! 70 deg down below!, (Cooperpeddy or Inaminca), or drinking cans if beer in a bar were the cockatoo's ( parrots) walk up and pick your can up and have a swig for themselves. We do not have enough space here!!!. Hey Greymane, A very happy and great new year to you!!!.

An oldy... but a goody !!!  Travel depends on where your going, it's a huge country !!!!!! Travelling from East to West, I'd go between August & December, down south, anytime but obviously winter is a lot colder but no snow except in the alpine regions which are small .Right up north you don't travel during the wet season which, i think, is between december & april.

If you've got some place in mind post it here & all us Aussies will let you know the best time & things not to miss !!

Thinking about a trip in 2011 with a 2-week bike rental.  Have not done much research yet, but google maps of the area between Sydney and Melbourne looks like some great coastline and mountains.  Probably would want to go inland too, but maybe that's better as a guided tour in a Jeep ...
