Clean Clutch lever assembly for LH handlebar

    Hi,

My bike is a 1973 FLH.

I have eliminated all the switches on the left handlebar, so I want to get rid of the clutch perch that has the big switch box built in, and use something like this: Early Model Lever Assemblies 1965-72 Big Twin and Sportster®

Looks like I have (3) choices for OEM parts:

    • 45002-65A: small cable hole (1965-1967 FL)
    • 38604-65A: large cable hole (1965-1970 Sportster)
    • 38604-71: medium cable hole (1972 Sportster)

Can I use my stock clutch cable with any of these? I would guess this one:

    J&P Part #5100031

Early Model Polished Lever Assembly Fits 1965-1970 Sportster® with large cable hole (OEM 38604-65A)

If not, is there any readily available clutch cable that will work with the stock 4-speed throw-out arm on the bottom and a top cable end that matches any one of these levers?

As usual, all replies are appreciated.

Here are the hole sizes for each. Measure your cable and select the best fit. These numbers are for the complete assembly

    Polished

    5100030 5/16"

    5100031 3/8"

    5100032 7/16"

    Chrome

    5100060 5/16"

    5100061 3/8"

    5100062 7/16"

Re: Clean Clutch lever assembly for LH handlebar

    Thanks a lot!
    Just what I needed.

So here is the finished reference chart for polished:

    5100030  5/16".............45002-65A: small cable hole (1965-1967 FL)

    5100031  3/8"..............38604-65A: large cable hole (1965-1970 Sportster)

    5100032  7/16"............38604-71: medium cable hole (1972 Sportster)

The stock 73FLH control measures about 3/8" so it looks like it should match up to 38604-65A.

Funny that the 'medium' cable hole is bigger than the 'large'.

    Oh well

Thanks and I'll let you know if it works..

    Chris
