    78 coil replacement

I have a 78 sportster and have replaced the points and condenser with a rev tech high-performance electronic ignition system and replaced the coil with a 3 ohm coil. the Coil is a drag Specialties 2102-0060 which is a lot like the product in this catelog as 380 - 088 which is a differnt shape than the original. The original has wire on the ends and this has the small wires on the same side as the plug wires. The machine seems to run ruff if I have the front cyclinder plugged into the left spark plug hole and the rear wire into the right side hole. If I switch them it "seems" to run smoother. Is there a differnce between the holes in the fireing? Is this switch likely to really make it run smoother?

    Re: 78 coil replacement

    Apod,

That's a dual fire coil. Both plugs fire at the same time. It doesn't matter which plug wire goes where. If you're seeing a difference in running when you switch them, you may have a bad plug wire, or plug. Are you sure it's timed right?........................
