    Rear Brake Not Working ?

I have a 06 1200C Sporty & what happened was I saw a leak on from the rear brake hose (from the reservoir to the master brake) & fixed that & it no longer leaks, after bleeding the rear brake I still have no rear brake ?

The only other problem I see is the boot cover has a hole in it. I am not sure if that would fix the problem or do I need a new Master Brake Cyl? it is not leaking from anywhere else it is just that you can not pump up the brake after bleeding ?

    THANKS

    Scott

Scott, Your piston could be stuck in? and not coming out when you pump your brakes.Idea

    Scott,

When you bled the brakes did the fluid come out of the bleeder on the calipar at a steady stream, or at all?  You probably still have air in the system. Try bleeding it again. Are you sure you are doing it right, as per your manual? Since that line that was leaking is above the master cyl, it should have retained fluid, and you should not have had to bleed it. You maybe introduced air into the system by bleeding it wrong.

I replaced that hose & it no longer leaks & I did bleed it right but still same problem. I took the master cyl. off cleaned it with carb cleaner & I am going to re-install it hope that fixes the problem if not then I guess I need to buy a new Master Cyl.

    THANKS

Carb cleaner?  i would rather have heard break cleans - not sure of the chemical make-up of carb cleaner with respect to drying in a manner that doesn't introduce contaminates into the braking system.

That said, the newer style master cylinders are more difficult to get blead than the older stuff - I know with my '82 up style master cylinder I have to bench bleed the master cylinder then install the line and install it on the bike (all at the same time trying to make sure I don't get brake fluid on any painted surfaces).

as a additional thought, you aren't mixing Dot5 with Dot3 or Dot4? Not a good idea (don't ask me how I found out. . .)

    hope this helps

When workin' on your ride the first tool out of the box should be the manual

    Scott,

That's not likely the problem, unless it's leaking. I would just keep bleeding it till all the air is out. Check your manual again to make sure you're doing it right. You don't want to let go of the pedal untill the bleeder in closed.

Re: Rear Brake Not Working ?

I picked up a vaccuum pump from Harbor Freight the other day and bled both mine and one of my bro's brakes. I don't think I've ever had brakes that once applied, stop me dead like they do now. Got all the air out after I changed the fluid completely. Did an awesome job... Check to make sure you aren't mixing Dot fluids. Could cause a major problema... Best of luck to ya...
