rubber boot heel melted on heat shield

My wife's boot heel melted on the heat shield on the left exhaust on my 2003 Road King.  Any suggestions on how to remove without scratching the heat shield?

EASY-OFF  oven cleaner!  Do not use a razor blade or other sharp instrument to remove the easy off...You can use a coarse sponge.

Easy-off oven cleaner is the way to go, as suggested above. For those stubborn spots you can even use a plastic scraper or very fine steel wool (#0000).

I wouldn't use steel wool or any abrasive polish / cleaner - the chrome layer is only paper thin - My local Chrome guy recommends Easy Off - put it on, let it sit 5 minutes or so and wipe it off (maybe a plastic dish curley thing) - repeat if necessary.

The easy off works.  I have done it using only a microfiber towell to scrub with.  Also wd40 will take it off most of the time.  Again using a mocrofiber.  Turtle Wax Chrome polish will also remove it most of the time.  I've used all three.

Another vote for the Easy Off. But make sure you DO NOT get it on any painted surface!!!!! Also you should get the pipes hot first then put the Easy off on..........wait about 15 min. then wipe off.

I now use Road Rub http://www.vanlark.com/ to get boot marks off of pipes, quick and easy, used to use Easy-Off, razors, and etc.

Problem is finding a dealer that carries this
