    points problem

I have a late 79 FXEF 80 Superglide. I took the electronic ignition out a long time ago and am running a points ignition now. I've been running it this way for 25 yrs. without a problem, but now I have a problem, The problem is I can only get one ride out of each condensor,it's not a bad conderson because they regain thier engery if the bike sits overnite. Does anybody have a clue as to where I should look? I;ve replaced the entire  ignition system. Can anybody give me a clue where to look because its got to be an electrical problem,

    79,

We've talked about a similar problem recently. It may be the coil breaking down when hot, by changing the condenser, you're actually letting the coil cool down, and it will run again....................See if you can get the coil load tested, or replace it with a known good one.............An altervative would be to install a Dyna S, or Mallory points eliminator set-up. Set it, and forget it.

Hello fx,  my name is Matt. I have a 76 shovelhead fx wideglide, it has points in it now and I would like to change it over to electronic ignition. I was wondering if you may have any suggestions as to what ignition would be best for this application?

I ran my 78 1/2 FXE with points for a lot of years after the orginal electronic ignition quit. I installed a Dyna S system and it sure picked up the power and starting improved.

Wow, I didn't reallize this was so common. I to had my orginal electronic ignition quit on my 79 FLH in 2001. So I installed chevy points and condenser, with a new  stock points coil. the set up still runs great to this date. And if the points or condenser fails chevy parts are easy to find.

    Matt,

The Crane Hi 4 single fire is very good, but pricey. Dyna S or Mallory are cheaper alternatives.............All good..............Make sure the coil maches the ignition................
