    v star running rough

oh so here is the deal.i am a beginner motorcyclist and have acquired a 2001 yamaha v star classic 650 from my brother inlaw.the bike sat in his garage for two years.it has only 2200 miles on her. when i got her she wasn't running.she has the stock air breather on and a set of jaradine slip ons on. i drianed out all the gas and took off the carbs and cleaned them the best i could.now she runs but when you take off she sputs and stutters intill about half throttle then she kicks in and takes off like a rocket.now my question is do you think that the carbs are still dirty ?or you think that i should rejet the carbs. i have no idea what has been done to the bike before i got it. my brother inlaw is not really mechanical so he has no idea either besides that he got it from the dealer with the slip ons on twhen he bought in new.had no problems with it when he rode it. sorry about my question being so long. thanks for any help

Are giving the bike enouph time to warm up? have you takin the spark plugs out to look at them? If your plugs are white your to lean you need to put a bigger main jet in the carb or you can also try adjusting the needle jet. If plugs are black your too rich you need to lean out the carb. Sounds like to me you may be lean. You can rejet the carb, I would recommend P# zz40806. Other tips that may cause this is intake leak or exhaust leak. Try these tips and see what you can come up with. But start with looking at the plugs.

sorry i forgot to mention that i changed the plugs when i got it. i am letting the bike warm up for about ten minutes or so. even after she's warm it still runs the same.i havent taken the plugs out yet to see if its rich or lean.but i will check them.and let you know.thanks for the part numbers and help
