 Is this an electric tachometer-( hooks up to coil)-that would work on my 83XLX?

 I'm not to familier with ironheads but you may need to also get a sensor such as P# 381-331.

     This is an electric tach. This tach came stock on the XL's starting in 1984. You would be able to adapt it over if you purchased the correct bracket or custom made one for your bike. If you have changed you ignition system to a single fire, then you would need the part from the previous reply.
