I switched from incandescent turn and brake lights to LED. My old HD552 flasher doesn't work. The turn signal lights (Right and Left) but doesn't flash.It's been on the shelve for 10 years. I installed a FL552/536LL electronic flasher. Now it flashes but real slow and very dim. Should I go back to the old HD552 and try again or do I have the wrong flasher for the led lights? Or does it make any difference. My old HD552 might have ben bad in the first place. What do you think?

I'm not sure of wiring differences for an 83 vs 86 - 03. Basically the load equilizer works with the electrical system and flasher to even out the load placed on the electrical system. The sporty electrical system tends to be very basic and bare bones, nothing too complicated. Maybe Scott could jump in here and steer you in the right direction.
The reason the first flasher did not work is the current draw of the early style flasher was not enough to heat the bi-metal strip inside to cause it curl. When this curls, it interupts the circuit turning off the lamp. I would go to my local automotive parts store and get a flasher relay. Ask for something like a Grote 44891 or a Signal Stat 285
what you need is to go to part store and get an electronic flasher,valley or peterson lighting both make them,or go to radio shack and get a diode resistor to wire in line.The LED have no resistance so he flasher basically doesnt know anything ie there.....
