That top lid piece needs lots of bricks (60lbs) stacked on top while the glue sets up for 24 hrs. Plus ya need to place towel under the lid to absurb the studs. That e-6000 glue works great, same as Automotive GOOP or marine GOOP.

A buddy had the the bossbags installed at Myrtle Beach several years ago. Very nice. I put the saggybags system in on my own. The end result is his were probably much nicer. Haven't had mine on since I did the kit. Mine's an 03 and I put them in last winter. I had a hard time with a couple of the inserts in the bags because the seam made the fit extremely tight. Had a few "prayer meetings" with one of them. Didn't have very good luck with the top piece either. Glued to the lid well except where it folds at the outer seam. I figure the straps will keep it tight enough not to be a problem.

The first week of the trip was awesome; over 3000 miles and Glacier was unbelievable. The Road to the Sun was still closed at the very top for snow removal but all I know is that if God has a summer home that's where it's at! Unfortunately the day we arrived in Billings for the state HOG rally I got a call that my dad was going to the hospital so on Friday the 26th I had to motor back to Moline, IL with a stop at a Mayo Clinic in Albert Lea, MN to deal with a kidney stone! My first and hopefully last; man that hurt!

Dad ended up passing away on the 29th but I made it back in time to spend the day with him and was there for his final ride. He was an avid cyclist (pedal variety) and wouldn't have had it any other way; no pain and heading straight "Home" on his final ride.

I plan on finishing my trip next summer with the wife in tow this time and in his honor.

06, the support rail was the hardest item to install, It's a tight fit. I got mine from the HD dealer and did not have to wait or pay for shippng. J&P's kit cost less, looks the same but you'll have to call them to be sure.

Thanks subxaero, sounds like u got just what is needed in Heritage bags from that kit. I just checked out their web site and gonna look at your photo files again. I like what I see with this kit. and I like that it is a do it yourself deal.

I did have a little mini road trip to the Blueridge Parkway here in the NC mountains. It was about a 446 or so mile trip that we took in on a Saturday a few weeks back. It was a great ride.

Sorry I sent this to fast before I looked at what I said. the statment PVC from got saggy bags is not PVC it's ABS like the one from J&P. J&P's saddlebag reinforcement kit looks to be the same as Got saggy bags. but if you notice cracks near your bag mounting bolts area install 1/8" angle aluminum across that mount it will save you the cost of replacing 700. dollar bags. look at my files and you will see the first photo 2006 harleydavidson 001.jpg before the bag support set up and then the last one seirra city road trip is a photo after the installation of the support set up.

Wellcome back 06 heritage, how was the road trip? This is what I did fo my 06 heritage saddle bags.

I installed 1/8" angle aluminum where the bag's bolt to the bag two bolt bracket then ordered "Got saggy Baggs from the harley dealer or you can order them right from the Manufactor www.gotsaggybags.com and pay for the shipping. The beefed up support and the PVC from got saggy bags work GREAT together. my bags are like new again and can hold more weight.

P.S. 06 I got you mixed up with cornbread7344 which is the one on a road trip.

Was wondering if anyone has used the leather bag reinforcement kit from J&P for Heritage bags and if it worked well, or if anyone could shed light on a comparison of this kit and the Bag Boss kit. The kit in J&P's catalog is part number 840-281 for my bags. There is about $100 difference in price of this kit and the Bag Boss kit plus you have to send your bags off to Bag Boss if you want their kit unless you get it at one of their vendor locations at a rally. J&P's kit is a do it yourself deal where the other kit is not. Both kits appear very similar to me except that the other kit makes your bags lockable which is one feature that is not a selling point for me. My bags are not sagging but I think it would be a wise investment to install a reinforcement kit of some kind to keep the bags looking good and in proper shape for years to come.
