    1999 1200 s timimg

Just picked up a 1999 1200 Sport and I need to set the timing but the shop manual says the "Sport" is different from other modles.  To set the initial timing you need a "Breakout box" (which I do not have and cannot find to purchase) and when your Volt meter is connected properly according to the manual you rotate the plate till you see 5Vdc.  Then you connect a Scanalyzer ( which I cannot buy) and set the timing1 degree at a time till dialed in.  Is there any way I can do this myself without taking it to the dealership? I'm doing a backyard engine build and I don't want to blow it up before it hits the pavement.  Thanks.
