    4 Speed Tranny ID

I'm trying to figure out what year my tranny is. I thought it was a 76 but when I pulled off the kicker cover it has the old style throw out bearing which the book says was used until early 74.

It is a ratchet top, kick only. On the bottom I found 34703 65 which I think is just the part number for the case. On the front right I found a small stamping S2874. Is this a date code? What does it deciper to??

    Thanks in advance

We'll have to wait for staff for this one, or you can call tech...

Don't force it, get a bigger hammer.

Rigid - first, welcome to the forums - what part of the country are you from?

yes, the 34703 65 is consistent with harley part numbers - if you had access to a good parts manual (I don't have one for that vintage big twins) it would tell you what years that case was used.

As FX says, staff should be able to help you.

The first tool out of the box should be the "book"  Geeked

Hey Ironhead, I'm from the great stae of Delaware.

Not a biggie if I don't figure this out. Mostly for curosity. This thing is in what I'm told is a 57 FL straight leg rigid frame. The motor is a 76 so I had always assumed the tranny was too. My exbrother in law put it all together years ago.
