    Transmission Fluid

I have a 1991 FXR in need of a transmission fluid change.   I've read dozens of opinions about using gear oil, primary fluid, etc.

    1.  Can I use the same fluid in both primary and transmission?

    2.  If not, is the Redline Trans Oil with Shockproof better than the Harley product and also safe for this old bike?

Thanks for your help & opinions!

    Re: Transmission Fluid

I use the same fluid in the tranny & primary on my '96 Road King, but then I haven't increased my HP to any real extent and i cruse - if I was into more HP or higher performance than maybe i would look at alternatives . . .

I think J&P have a fluid comparable to the HD Sportstran

Tex, don't use primary in the transmission. Redline is good. I like, and have used for years, Belray 85/140, they have it here...

I read a post where a guy was using the Redline product due to it's color - that way if something leaked it was easier to identify.   Think I'll go with that one based on your endorsement.  Thanks!

    Re: Transmission Fluid

BelRay is red, and it is high anti-shear, primary oil is not...
