yep, six miles from the nearest light pole or road. i inherited a small house, or large hunting cabin, depending on how you look at it, in the mountains of western Wyoming. everything is run on LP. sits in a mountain valley 75 feet from a stream and a waterfall. mountain spring water right out of the faucet. clean air. just gotta watch out for the bears and mountain lions

actually, i take a remington 30.06 and my .40 S&W Glock. we get the occassional grizzly wandering down from yellowstone, i don't know if my 12 would stop one of those, but i know the 30.06 will. my uncle had a bear wander into the house twice over the last 30 years, evidently they can figure out the sliding glass door in the kitchen if you don't keep it locked

    Re: time off

Next door neighbour had a garbage box with 2 doors (2 can) held closed by a turn button.

In the middle of the night he heard a noise and looked out - there was a racoon giving the button a "spin" then trying the door so a bear figuring out a sliding door doesn't suprise me.

that has happened more than once up there. one guy got snowed in so bad they had to bring in a D9 cat to get him out. we had a hard frost the last morning we were there. there was 11 feet of snow on the ground there in april, and i've seen three feet of snow fall in one day on june first. there were still a couple of snow drifts on the path when i was there the last week of june. so getting snowed in is definetly possible.  besides, we were getting low on beer :)
