    K & N 171b & c filters

    I was surprised to learn that K & N makes two different designs of the KN 171 filter that is supposed to fit Harley Davidson. 

    #1 has a slightly recessed thread and six feeder holes.  It only takes 1 turn before the gasket contacts the oil filter housing face and then K & N says to turn it another full turn making it only two turns on the housing nipple....I'm not comfortable with that....

    #2 has the same thread depth as the stock Harley premium 5 filter and 8 feeder holes.  It takes two full turns on the nipple for the gasket to contact the housing face.  Again they want another full turn after contact.   

    I called K & N and their people advised that #2 is a newer design.  Don't know how you can specify the newer KN 171 when ordering, there is no difference in the model # or packaging but there is DEFINITELY a difference between the two.....#1 was unacceptable on both my 2003 Deuce and 2017 Ultra.
