    Hmm [^o)] New Speedo Connection

I am trying to find out where I can connect my Speedo drive for my custom bike. I have a 1983 XLH and the drive was on the front axel. Now with my new front fork, dual disc my speedo doesn't have a place. I saw a Nightrain today and noticed they don't have a front speedo drive either. What do they use and can I modify my bike to accept the new drive. My engine is out of the bike and the tranny is out also. Do they connect it somewhere in the tranny?

    Night

if you go to page 600 in the update catalogue (parts list for sporty trans), there isn't any provision for a tranny speedo drive - I think the pre-1970 models could, but I am not sure.

options?  a different front wheel that has the provision for a speedo drive or maybe one of the pickups for the rear wheel - maybe something like Rear wheel pickup sensor for Softail and rigid applications (1 1/8” i.d.) # 2210-0014

I am sure when the J&P techs get in they can come up with some options as well

    have a good one

    Re: New Speedo Connection

I used the 5600140  on my build. It is listed for a 86-95 softtail, which mine is,  but It might  be made to work in your application.  I had a spacer on my left side of the swing arm that was wider than the speedo drive unit so all I had to do was cut the spacer down the width of the speedo drive and everything else stayed the same....

Ratio does make a difference. 21" and 16" wheels take a 2240:60 ratio speedometer and drive. 19" wheels require a 2:1 ratio speedo and drive. The speedo and drives must be matched.

OH, Thanks! That's quite a ration difference and the info will also help in speedo slection.
