Panhead Fork Top Hitting Fat Bob Tank

I've got a 60 pan in a wishbone rigid. Back in the day the neck was heated, rotated maybe 30 over stock. Forks are 6" over stock.

The (stock) bottom triple tree has a notch in it to hit the bottom of the neck as a fork stop. Problem is when I atttempt to mount

the new aftermarket Fat Bobs, the fork top hits the tank side which of course is NO GOOD!

I've been brainstorming (not good at my age) and looking here for some good advice on how to fix this situation. I was thinking of

welding in some metal to the notched area on the triple tree to help it stop earlier, but I'm hoping there is some better ideas out here.

Another Idea I had was to maybe tap & die and screw in a bolt kinda like those old door stops in houses (to keep the door knob going

through the sheetrock). So can you guys help me out here with a clean looking idea? Thanks (newbie forum member) BTW: the

clearance isn't that bad, maybe a 1/4-1/2 on each side.

Re: Panhead Fork Top Hitting Fat Bob Tank

First consideration is turning radius - when the upper tree turns just shy of hitting the tank (maybe tape a piece of carpet to the tank as a buffer) will the bike turn tight enough for parking lots, etc?

second thought, is there any way to modify the mounts so you coul dmove the tank back a half inch or so?

    hope this helps

When workin' on your ride the first tool out of the box should be the manual

i'd be more concerned by the fact that the frame was heated and bent, i wouldn't trust that frame a bit, i'd replace it with a properly built frame, that would allow the tanks to mount properly

    Does J&P sell frames? ;~)

I forgot to mention(didnt' seem nesc. to go into ALL the details) that the neck was cut first, then heated and then after they also welded in triangulated steel gussetts on either side and the bottom. I spent a lot of quality  time with this frame after it was sand blasted and doing the molding and the neck is nothing but good old yankee know-how and quality.  I like the fact that my bike is an antique chopper(barn find) and it is the real deal from back in the day. But thanks for your concern.
