    disc brake conversion

     i have a 1958 sportster w/mechanical front brake. want to convert to new front end with discs in front. i don't know stem size or what years of sportster will bolt up to stock neck on frame. what front ends can i replace original with.any suggestions are appreciated.would like to put wide front end on if possible

    sportster front end from 1973-78 with disc brake will fit the 7/8 neck bearings you have. if you want to go wide glide, you'll need a conversion front end, since all the big twin front ends have 1 inch neck bearings, not 7/8. an example of a conversion front end would be 230-399, or 230-350, 230-404

     I hate to disagree but 7/8 only went up to 77, then it went to 15/16 with timken bearings from 78 thru 81 and 1" after that.

     i stand corrected, the parts book shows the 1978 went to the timkin bearings
