    Starter Relay Problem

     I have a 87 softail and when I ride in the rain my starter relay dies on me I am on my third one since july the relay does not die as soon as it starts to rain

    Saturday it was raining when I left the house but the bike started fine seven times Saturday but the 8th time the relay was dead and the bike would not start fortunatly I started carying a spare with me and as soon as I changed the relay the bike started right up

    does anybody know what the problem could be or offer any suggestions

        Do you have any corrosion built up in the relay plug? Have you checked to see if any wires are loose or almost broken on the plug end? You might try using a meter the next time it happens to make sure you have 12 volts going to the plug. With the relay still attached use your volt meter and test the wire #30 for 12 volts. If you have 12 volts there, press the start button and check for 12 volts at #87. If you don't, replace the relay. If you do, check the green wire between the relay and the solenoid.
