I bought a FXSTC this spring and it came with Dunlop tires. The rear tire was down to the wear indicators after 6500 miles. Most of the mile were highway miles. I recently bought a 2001 FLHRCI with Avon "Gangster wide whitewalls. As you know these are directional tread tires. Aside from the fact that these tires like to follow every little crack and rain groove on the road, is this considered a safe tire for the conditions it will see on this bike?

Avon venoms hold good in the rain, but for the heavier bikes on a road trip they can not hold much weight, there is no reinforced construction, Dunlops and Metzeler's do. I will be testing my Avons going north to Yellowstone and Glacier,MT, there will be wet roads. as for the weight of the bike loaded...
