    Stranded

Just got back from 3500mi trip out west. On the last day went out to start my 06 FLHT. Basicly stock with 13000mi.Turned the switch and everything came on alright. When I hit the starter sparks flew out the left handle bar area and it just cliked. Removed controls and could not find any pinched wires or signs of a short. Tried jumping from another battery but would not turn over. As a last resort we pushed it down a hill and it started. Rode the 600mi home in nine hours without turning it off. Battery checks out at 12.5 volts and everything works till I hit the starter. I noticed that my clutch cable gets hot when i hit the starter. Any advise on where to start would be appreciated.

    Re: Stranded

my best guess would be that the starter is not grounding properly, and it's grounding through the clutch cable, or the main cable from the battery to the starter has shorted to the tranny. check the grounds, i have an extra wire that i ran from my starter to the battery on my bike. also eyeball the positive cable real well. either way, the clutch cable needs to be replaced after you find the problem

You got it right sfranta, Pulled the battery out and the ground wire was pinched when it was assembled at the factory. It had'nt broken the insulation and it did'nt show any signs of sparking but it was just enough to keep it from starting. Thanks for the help.
